This is a 1988 Ford Escort wagon. Professionally converted in the state of California by Solar Electric. The history of the vehicle is very interesting. It was custom built for Eric Neilson the brother of the actor Leslie Neilson who eventually became a politician here in Canada. I still have the original convertion owners manual supplied by Solar Electric. From the documents and business cards I still have it looks like Eric Neilson became a franchise owner of a Solar Electric here in Canada. I am by no means an expert in this stuff but the vehicle operates on a 108 volt system {18x6 volt deep cycle batteries}. The electric engine is made by GE. It has an Iota DLS-30 dc to dc converter. The onboard charger is a K&W BC-20. The charger has adjustable amperage and voltage. It is a manual transmission but with an electric car it works very similar to an automatic as you only usually use 2nd and 3rd gears. The car is capable of freeway speeds as daily I have to go on the freeway and do 80-90 kilometers per hour {50-55 mph} with no problem. It is able to atain higher speeds. The fasteset I had it going was 110 kilometers per hour{65 mph}. The battery pack is approx 1 year old and I have not maintained the battery pack optimaly. The bottom line is at this point only able to retain about 40% of its origanal capacity. When the pack was new it would get approx 40 kms {25 miles} to a charge and now goes about 15 kms{10 miles} without having to be recharged. I still use it daily to commute to and from work as my commute is only 12-14 kilometers one way and then I plug it in a work for about 4 hours and I get a return trip. This is in winter time so it should go further as it warms up. I beleive in giving a good deal if you get a good deal. I am asking only $8500 for the vehicle. I beleive this is an excellent deal as a convertion now is about $16000 to $18000. |
